Beginning Geokinesis and its sub-forms are generally only perusable if there have been several prior instances in which the gift has shown itself in an uncontrolled or unplanned manner. To “think” you have an ability is never enough, it has to be apparent to exercise it into the next phase. Generally you can not learn to control what you can not even do accidentally.

I'd have to agree on that one, I'm afraid you can't just "choose" an ability to learn and master it as easy as choosing the clothes you'll wear for the day. My advice would be to stick with whatever abilities you have and master them. Eventually you'll come across other sub-forms of the ability you're developing and gain a bit of insight about them. But really, any form of Kinesis is hard to master, you should really stick to one until you fully develop it.
